Hello, Internet!
Welcome to People's Registrar, a community of avid and lay Internet users
who seek to take control of the infinite possibilities that the Internet
geography can provide us. We seek to develop entirely new Top Level Domains (TLDs) that will replace the arbitrary ".com" domain name, such as ".smith" or ".soda". Learn about the decision that made the People's Registrar community possible by reading
this article.
- Why restrict Web "credibility" to a severely limited quantity of .com (maybe .net) domain names?
- Why prevent the Internet community from taking advantage of clean, unfiltered vanity and practical domain names?
- Why must I purchase http://anton.bernstein.com when http://anton.bernstein makes that much more sense?
The plan goes as such:
- We pledge to buy domains on People's Registrar (either publicly or privately)
- People's Registrar contacts the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers with a community request to buy the most pledged-for Top Level Domain (TLD)
- People's Registrar collects the total purchase price that ICANN establishes from the PR community
- People's Registrar buys the TLD and distributes domains based on who puts in capital for which domains!
It's really that simple. For any multi-pledged domains, the first person to pledge gets preferance by some degree, but ultimately a bidding system will be established to determine price. The overall price per domain will be ICANN's price divided by pledged domains. Have any thoughts or questions? Comment!
